Focus on – Group Shots

In this day and age where reportage style photography is very popular, the group shot still holds it’s own. Driven by the desire to have a record of family groups or by relatives who still hanker after a more traditional style of photography, the group shot is extremely popular. There is a reason why I like to limit the number of group shots. Firstly, it’s probably the most time consuming part of the day and the part that takes the most organisation. Secondly, for a photographer who likes to be discreet for the most part, I suddenly have to find my voice and let everybody know who I am and what I require of them.

I often hear horror stories about a wedding that someone has just been to where the photographer had them standing round for hours while the group shots were taken. And while parents and grandparents may love the end result, let’s just face it, it’s not fun hanging around being directed. At the end of the day, it’s your wedding day, it won’t be again tomorrow or the day after so I want you to make the most of your time and enjoy it.

Beautiful light

Did I mention I’m a lover of beautiful light? Light to a photographer is like a brush to an artist. You can manipulate it to make pictures come alive. So I get quite excited about beautiful light. At the beginning and the end of the year when the sun is lower in the sky and not so intense you can get some beautiful effects. So yesterday I took my little boy for a kickaround in the park (soccer mom I am not but hey!) and had to take the camera. There were still little clumps of frozen snow on the ground which gave the grass a polka dot effect. Rather nice for taking pictures of him as I haven’t done any for a while now. Here’s a little trio of my favourites.

Getting to know you

To me one of the most important things about choosing a photographer is getting along with them. If you don’t gel with your photographer, the pictures can look awkward and set-up. It’s important to try and get to know your photographer before your big day. That’s why a pre-wedding shoot is important. You get to spend time with your photographer and get comfortable with them. The other great way to get to know your photographer is through things like their blog and Facebook pages. I try to give snippets of information about myself in order to help you, the audience, to know me a little better. That’s why I have a little category called Behind the Lens. This is all about me and my life when I’m not being a photographer. I have been very bad of late at updating this so I will try to give you more from now on, I promise

Mini Shoot – Sam

Today I did a little mini shoot with my good friend Sam Clayton. And boy it was a mini shoot because it was absolutely freezing! We spent more time drinking warm drinks and eating fish finger and sausage butties respectively than taking photo’s but we had great fun. Belle Epoque – Styled Shoot

Last week I had the honour of working with some really creative and talented people. We all worked together on a collaboration with a Marie Antoinette theme, while still remaning bridal based. It’s really great to work on collaborations because everybody gets to let loose and do something that they wouldn’t normally do. A frosty, winter Beloved Shoot

Suzanne & Richard braved a cold winter morning at Heaton park so I could get some pictures of them for their pre-wedding shoot. They are such a thoughtful and lovely couple that they even brought me a cupcake in a box to say thanks – how nice is that Anyway here are my favourite images from the session.

OK, so I can’t share the images from yesterday’s shoot with you just yet but I can perhaps give you a little taster by showing you some behind the scenes pictures.
